On both banks of Daugava River between Plavinas and Koknese there were numerous impressive
cliffs. Olinkalns cliff was among the most impressive ones - it was up to 15 m high. For the
ancient settlement located on the top of this cliff - Olinkalns hillfort - this was secure location
and good point to overview the busy waterway.
Most part of cliff is under water since 1965, just few upper metres of dolostone cliff are
visible.
