The largest known pine in Baltics at its time was Zauskas pine near Smiltene town. It died in 1954. The girth of this tree was 4,63 cm, age - 370 years, the volume of timber was 14,9 m3. According to the legends this tree was connected with the cult of deceased - there were cut crosses in trunk every time when the dead was carted along the tree.
